NINTH Annual SF DOCFEST
The film festival that provides a manageable amount of the truth

October 14 – 28, 2010
Roxie Theater in San Francisco
With over 60 films (including 3 world premieres) spanning twelve countries around the world, the Ninth Annual San Francisco Documentary Film Festival (DocFest) is a two-week extravaganza of unconventional and highly engaging non-fiction films and videos.

DOCFEST Opens with EVERYDAY SUNSHINE: The Story of FISHBONE,
Closes with The People Vs. George Lucas
DocFest celebrates an extra special Opening Night this year with the smashing EVERYDAY SUNSHINE, co-directed by Chris Metzler and Lev Anderson. Called an “effortlessly entertaining, joyful docu” by Variety, Metzler and Anderson use a hybridized film style (including animation) to document the why and wherefore of Fishbone’s indefinable musical hybrid of pop, punk, funk, metal, jazz-rock and ska. The Opening Night Party after the film features a live concert at the DNA Lounge with Fishbone headlining the show.

Over 60 films and two weeks later, DocFest winds down on Closing Night with THE PEOPLE VS GEORGE LUCAS. Alexandre O. Philippe’s no‐holds‐barred, no stone unturned, completely uncensored, yet balanced cultural examination of the conflicted dynamic between the great George Lucas and his fans over the past three decades.

In addition to screening tons of new documentaries from around the world (and around the Bay), DocFest 2011 includes a special night of New Wave music on 10/16 with a screening of the concert film URGH! A MUSIC WAR followed by a program of Music Video Sing A Longs. The festival also throws an annual ROLLER DISCO COSTUME PARTY (10/23 at Cellspace) and this year wraps with a Star Wars themed costume party on 10/28 at Cellspace called MOS EISLY CANTINA.

Tickets to most screenings are $11 and there are discount passes available. For more info check out www.sfindie.com
